Fitting the KH Splitter

I have to admit that I had been sceptical about the benefits of fitting a splitter, but once it was fitted, high speed driving and stability was very much improved.

The KH splitter is very easy to fit and is available either in painted or unpainted - take you choice. I went for the painted version, BRG of course, and there was no problem with the colour match to my 1996 car.

You will need to raise the front end of the car, but be warned - the rising angle of my ramps only just allow clearance of the lower front edge of the standard bumper, and fitting the splitter will reduce that to the extent that it will foul. Check how much clearance your ramps have - you may need to use a jack to get the car off again!

The splitter comes will Fitting Instructions plus the required nuts and bolts and washers. It should have 5 pre-drilled holes that determine where you will need to drill the front bumper.

  • When positioning it on the car, apart from being centrally aligned, it need to be as far back as it can go. Ideally, you need a pair of G-clamps to hold it in place once you have aligned it.

  • The instructions advise you to use a plumb line to mark the centre line off the car, but be aware that the string will tend to lie against the bumper and will therefore not hang clear.

  • Once it is aligned, drill the central holes, fit one of the bolts to hold it up in place, without fully tightening it.

  • Re-check the overall alignment, making sure the 2 outer ends are evenly balanced, and then drill and fit another bolt at one of the outer edges.

  • Re-check the overall alignment, and if all okay, drill and fit all the other bolts, tightening them all up.

  • Now lower the car, remembering that the front clearance has been reduced.

Drive and enjoy the new look and feel.
