MGF Quatity Database Submission FAQ

Q1: Why fill in a Form rather than enter data directly into the Database?
Sending data via a form allows for a level of moderation and control to take place on what ends up in the database. This hopefully will sift out inappropriate data that could be misleading.

Q2: What items should I submit?
Any that can be regarded as non-standard Rover items, whether they are from Rover or another supplier. Please be honest as possible and include 'the good, the bad, and the....damright useless'!

Q3: How many seperate items can I submit?
As many as you like. The Form allows you to enter your name and car details once, and then upto 4 individual items, simply by using the 'Next' button. You can 'Submit' your entry at any point after completeing your first item.

Q4: Do I have to give my name and car details?
Yes, since it is important to be sure that you are a genuine user of MGF parts etc. Besides, this is in line with views expressed on the BBS when this database was initially suggested. It is also important to be able to relate which items have been fitted to which models.

Q5: Why do I need to enter my web address?
For a similar reason to that of Q1, and it also means that I can contact you if I have a query.

Q6: What should be included in the 'Item Description'?
It needs to be specific enough to clearly identify what ever part or service has been provided, maybe by a part number, or in the case of a service, exactly what was done to the vehicle. Please check to see if a similar item is already included in the list and if so use the same description. This will allow an average score to be calculated. Also, please indicate if the item is 'second hand'.

Q7: What should be entered for 'Cost'?
Cost is to some degree subjective, so while your impression maybe that it was "reasonable" or "fair", someone else may not feel the same. It would be better to enter the actual value in GBP or Euros, unless of course you no longer have the receipt and cannot remember, in which case enter you impression.

Q8: How accurate should the date be?
It only needs to be approximate; i.e. June 2002 or mid-2003.

Q9: What information is required for 'Quality'?
This too can be subjective, but it is acceptable to enter something like "good" or "high" where nothing specific is wrong with the item or service. However when there is something specifically wrong, it would be much better to describe the fault.

Q10: Do I have to enter something in 'Supplier's resonse'?
If you have complained to the supplier, then yes. Their response is a good indication of how seriously they approach the quality of their products or services.

Q11: What sort of value should be entered for '% Rating'?
If the item you are reporting on is already in the databse, try not to be influenced by the existing values displayed - enter your own opinion. A quality level of 100% is difficult to attain, and will not allow you to better it, should you come across another supplier who offers a similar item at an even higher quality.

Q12: How will the '% Rating' values be treated?
Over a period of time, and as more entries become available, it should be possible to calculate the "Overall % Rating" for a particular item, service or supplier.

Q13: Can I add feed-back or comments regarding how the survey is being conducted?
Yes - simply enter them into the 'Any other comments' field.
